| Welcome to Varinder Singh's online portfolio |
Varinder Singh is treated as a multi-faceted personality—quintessentially a humanist, an amateur singer, a seasoned journalist with a more than 14 years of experience and the one who, loves to look at and take on tardy situations with a smile.
Possessing a keen interest in life, its vibrance and spontaniety, its romance and beauty, nature, and wildlife Varinder Singh has been a well-known face, as a journalist with daily The Tribune and as has been appearing on TV, particularly, Jalandhar Doordarshan.
He has tried his hands in the much- cherished field of electronic media as an anchor, an expert on current affairs and as a commentator on social issues concerning human life in general, and touching the lives of the down-trodden in particular. He is regarded as a ‘representative of people’ of the region since, he is known to have hammered out a number of important issues with full vigour and regardless of his limitations as a journalist and having faced a number of hurdles on different fronts. Hard times, as a journalist and as a human being, have, in turn, blessed him with an essence of an array of life-time experiences.
Out of college life having attained his masters in English, Varinder Singh started his career in 1995 as a reporter with the daily India Express after doing his Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communications (B.J.M.C) only never to look back inspite, of the fact that music was his first love. Subsequently, he graduated as a Senior Staff Correspondent with Chandigarh based daily The Tribune, where, he has been serving for last about 10-11 years and has had stints at important cities of Chandigarh, Jalandhar and was lately positioned at Patiala. He is also credited with creating “World’s first Media Flag”, an event covered by a section of print and electronic media. Doaba region of Punjab seems to have been enchanting him since his college days.
Besides, his educational and literary pursuits, Varinder also undertook a short course in film making with an urge to explore varied media and learn the art of film making and an Indian Army organised course on defence reporting. His exposure of different fields has been helping him broaden his grasp of practical journalistic requirements and relate to the minds of people.
In his never-ending quest for exploration of nature and knowledge of different cultures, Varinder Singh has sought to attain celestial and yet practical experiences through his journeys deep into Canada, U.S.A. Taiwan and Nepal.
What has enchanted him the most in his life was nothing but inimitable songs rendered by immortal Mohammed Rafi, colours of fall in the backdrop of scenic Canada countryside. How he relates the two divergent and divine occurances is best known to him. Since, he has been in love with nature deeply ever since he was a kid, he wrote a simple poem, “The Rain”, in his college days. Even after passage of so many years, the poem, appearing on this site, still keeps resurrecting him out of tough times, every off and on, and keeps driving him miles away from malice. Coming across wonderful people in his life, he considers, is his treasure.
Believing in humility to the core, Varinder always believes in seeking blessings and wishes of his revered mentors, ever-well-wishing friends, supportive family members, teachers, guiding seniors and colleagues. Most of events relating to his life, his friends and well-wishers are seen in pictures here while, a number of them does not . This does not mean that they are or have been out of life. Rather, there are people who, who are not here but, who are adored by Varinder in more than one ways. “Life goes on and on and so is its journey,” says Varinder with a child-like simplicity and curiosity.
